Have I ever told you how lucky I am?
Well I am… Very lucky… Very lucky to be able to share such an amazing day with such an amazing couple!
Shanika and Paul are such an amzing couple.. I feel so blessed to attract the sort of couples I work with . To me though this is not work, this is a blessing…may sound cheesy but this is how I feel!
Its so true when I say couples come to me as clients and leave as good friends, especially when I get to spend so much time with them as I have with Shanika and Paul. Masha and I were with them for 12 hours yesterday, I came home utterly exhausted but so happy!
Not only is this couple extremely smart, both being Lawyers but also so creative. They designed and made everything themselves, going to so much effort to make sure no stone was left unturned.
This wedding was a merger of 2 cultures, with Shanika being Sri-Lankan and Paul being Polish. The wedding was full of both traditions, with Sri-Lankan Dancers and drummers, shots of vodka , bread and salt and a great Aussie band. It is so wonderful to watch how cultures merge so easily and with so much love and acceptance of each others traditions and cultures.
So here are the photos from Shanika and Paul’s cross culture wedding extravagansa!!
One word to sum up their wedding, “Joyous”
Flowers; Poetry in Flowers
Cake: Amelias cakes
Venue: old Parliament house
Catering by Ginger Catering
Ceremony: St Andrews in Forest
Shanikas’ Sari: Picked and bought back from Sri-Lanka by Shanika’s dad… awww!

Here is a quick sneak peak from Saturdays studio shoot, but keep your eyes glued for the earthy mumma shoot on Thursday.
What a beautiful belly!

We had such a beautiful day in Canberra with such an amazing couple couple and bridal party. There is something so warm and fuzzy about being around a couple so much in love and their friends who love them so much.
Masha and I had such an amazing day with this beautiful couple, I felt really blessed to have been able to spend the whole day with them.

Saturday was gorgeously funky wedding of Chris and Claire, held in the Hyatt Hotel’s lavender garden.
This wedding was so different, they got ready together, had their locations photos before the ceremony, no bridal party , no cake and had a gourmet BBQ for their reception.
The details were amazing, black board place settings, Lolly Station, Table of deserts, M&M’s with their faces on them, Bouche’ , The Crazy Station and much more. It was such a fun and emotional wedding …Masha and I had a ball with this amazing group of people.
It was such a fabulous day!!
Enjoy the sneak peak!

Yesterday we had the beautiful wedding of Christine and Scott. Ceremony was held at Girls Grammer School and the reception at The beautifully renovated Abbey at Gold Creek.
We had the worst weather but that didn’t stop us from getting creative within a confined area![]()
It was such a beautiful night filled with gorgeous people dressed in sari’s and suits!
Thank you Christine and Scott for being so wonderful to work with, it was a true pleasure to photograph your wedding day:)
Enjoy your sneak peak!

I love this photo, I wasn’t sure whether it would work out like I planned as I had to manually focus through a wire gauze wall but am so happy with the outcome![]()

I am so lucky to have just made the most amazing trip to Vietnam with my hubbie. Anthony had to work over there for 1 day so we decided to both go and add a few days on either side.
There is something totally transforming about travelling, it connects you too others, their struggles and their culture. It makes you realise how grateful we should be everyday about even the simple things in life like clean water and a blue sky.
These cultures have so little yet so much. Even in the crazy traffic we never once saw road rage!!
This is the first photo I saw when I woke on my first day in Vietnam. The days was really misty and our hotel was right on the lake at West Lake. As you can see you can not see the other side of the lake lol!

It symbolises the lotus flower coming out of the dark muddy waters. This lady had been standing there for a while praying before the Pagoda. When she looked up she had tears falling down her face. I got quite emotional just watching her and would have loved to hear her story.

We got ripped off by him but didn’t mind.. This job is given to many men from the war or from the country and is seen as the lowest of jobs…

The vietnamese are multi-talented, yes he is rowing the boat with his feet and scooping rubbish from the lake with his hands.

Uncle Ho’s museum where he is embalmed…he was such an amazing man. Giving up on his own life in pursuit of freedom for the Vietnamese.

A slight issue with the electricity wiring lol!

One Pillar Pagoda.

Vietnam is wedding central, it’s just crazy the amount of weddings you see around Hoan Kiem Lake on any one day. Supposedly from the minute they get engaged to married is only a few weeks. Weddings photos are taken about 2 weeks before the wedding and the wedding day is chosen by the local buddist monk. So it could be a Monday or a Wednesday. They hire their wedding dresses etc for the photo shoot, it was funny to see many brides holding up there dresses with jeans underneath!! here I am being an Uncle Bob!

There are beautiful Bonsai Trees everywhere!

Our first hotel The Intercontinental on West Lake was amazing, the actual pavilions where some of the rooms are, are built over the water.

At every opportunity these ladies carrying their basket would stop and try to sell you their wares. Some of them are so amazingly heavy!

This is one of the busiest intersections in the Old Quarter! Driving through it on cyclo is a very scary experience, but by the end of our trip we were locals walking through. If you walk at a steady pace the motorbikes just manoeuvre around you, cars on the other hand don’t!
View from above and from a cyclo…

We spent 1 night on a Junk sailing around Halong Bay, what a great experience!

Our room on the boat, so comfy!

Hubbie looking spunky!

The ladies that rowed us around the fishing village, they rowed for an hour !

The fishing Villages are built on the water, we even saw dogs on these houses and babies wandering around!

Having a bath in a bowl!

The local school, the kiddies on the fishing village go to school from ages 7-10, if they want to go further they have to go to the main land. Many don’t.
This lady was so beautiful!

Upper deck of the boat.

We were told that before we leave that we have to get up early and get down to Hoan Kiem Lake before 6am. So on our last day we did! it was amazing, it turned into exercise central. There was so many different forms of exercise from aerobics to Tai chi

Tai chi with swords, pretend ones that fold up of course!

Make shift gyms with dumbbell’s made of concrete, man that is one workout!

Even if you can’t stand up very well, you can still exercise!

I was really taken with this lady, she was so beautiful!

Boxing the light poles….as you do lol!

An example of the sort of things you see on the bikes.

hubbie trying to look happy with getting his photo taken, standing in front of a house in the Old Quarter.

I had a day free while Anthony was working so of course I couldn’t resist myself in doing a fashion shoot in the crazy city of Hanoi.
Linh has never had her photo taken professionally before and couldn’t understand much english but that didn’t matter she was such a natrual in front of the camera.
A BIG thank you to Julia who currently lives over there for organising this for me.
Enjoy the sneak peak of the beautiful Linh![]()

I love the light in winter, but for Canberran’s it can be a little hard to get them out of their winter slumber to get some photos done.
So I thought a winter special may help![]()
For anyone looking at booking a portrait session between May and August this year ( my last year in Canberra) I will give them the sitting fee for free.
This can be for a newborn, little kidlets, family, engagement or fashion style shoot.
This includes all professional editing of images and online gallery for 2 months.
So this is a saving of $200
here is a little example of some of my winter photos from last year…

Must be shot in between May and August 2010

I just picked up my print case from the post office and rushed home to open to see what each print scored.
I am so happy, I received 4 silver awards! yeh!
The first is for the photo of Sarah – Jane I took last winter.

The second was for the wedding of Kerrie- Ann and Brett. This photo was taken on Kerrie-Anns’ famlies sugar cane property in North Queensland.

This photo from was from Tai and Nic’s wedding in Merimbula Sth Coast NSW.

Claire and Chris (in this photo) are about to come and pick up their photos from their wedding held on the 27th of February 2010… I can’t wait to tell them the good news!!
This photo was taken in the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

What a beautiful time to be married in Canberra! The sun was out but it wasn’t too hot and everything is so green and lush from the record rain falls from last month.
I had the pleasure of photographing Justine and Nigel’s wedding, this is such an easy going couple not fazed with all the hoo haa that can accompany a wedding day. They have been together for a long time and wanted to formalise their commitment to each other.
Justine and Nigel were married at Nara Garden’s followed by a reception dinner at the Ainslie Footbal Club.
Thank you to you all for being so wonderful, I really enjoyed being apart of your wedding day![]()

Cilla is Justine and Nigel’s baby… thought I would add this just for them. She doesn’t like getting her photo taken, except by a weird lady making funny noises at her lol!

Nothing like some beautiful window light…

The beautiful Justine…

Have you ever seen a more relaxed bride, yes they were walking into the ceremony!

AWWWWW!

Did I mention how amazing the light was in Canberra yesterday, sun and storm clouds…couldn’t ask for anything more![]()

This was Justine flicking her veil out of the way…I like it!

What a bonus.. the fog machines in the garden’s were on!

He he got to love boy’s being boys’…here they are pretending to be Steve Irwin prowling through the jungle lol!

Can you believe it was almost dark… talk about working quick and thank god for 4000 iso!

These building shots were all taking between 3500 and 6400 iso… I love my new camera!

Just a few more favourites!

We went out and tried something different and funky as a prelude to their upcoming nuptials in October. Well this is one couple that have nothing to worry about, how photogenic are they! Both of them have the most dreamy eyes![]()
Hope you enjoy your sneak peak!

I was just saying to my Hubbie, I must be getting more soft ( if that is possible) as I get older. I am not one for being overly religous but am finding some of the tradtional ceremonies so moving. Maybe it’s because it is something different to what I am used too![]()
Natalie and Mitchell had a traditional Serbian Orthodox ceremony at Farrer Orthodox church followed by a reception dinner at The Lobby. They had a beautiful choir singing in support of the priest.
The priest was amazing allowing almost free rain of the church and gave me a religous braclet at the end… such a warm fellow![]()
We made our way into the city and used the parliamentary triangle to get some wonderfully varied shots. The sun went down really quickly so we had to find spots where there was some lighting. All I can say is thank god for Video lights and 6400 ISO![]()
Thank you to Natalie and Mitchell for being such great sports, enjoy your sneak peak![]()

These look superimposed, but they are not lol! These are the little sugar coated almonds that were thrown over the couple as they left the church. They just happened to catch the sun on the way over![]()

Beautiful light in the church![]()

What can I say about autumn light…soo yummy!

One of my favourites !

awwwww!

Masha took this photo, I loved it.. especially the reflection, good job Masha !!

It was quite dark at this stage… using 6400 iso and video light.

Using a mix of street light and video light. it was pitch black![]()

This little bubba has been a long time coming. Fiona’s last little blessing Airlie was born at 27.5 weeks due to eclampsia and Hellp syndrome which is a deadly pregnancy related desease that effects pregnant woman.
It was such a extremley hard time for Fiona , Adrian and little Mason that it took a long time for them to be willing to take the risk of trying for another. She told me she felt ripped of not being able to really enjoy her pregnancy and get some beautiful blossoming belly shots like other mummy’s had.
She is under strict hospital care at the moment and must stay close to home, incase it happens again. So I flew down to Melbourne early in the pregnancy ( she is now 28 weeks so doing really well ) to get some funky, edgy, creative and glamourous maternity photos before her new little man arrives safe and sound.
I love my pregnant mummy’s to feel wonderful and sexy, pregnancy is such a special time for a woman. They glow, their skin is full of colour and their hair is wonderfully thick and shiny. Why wouldn’t she feel good!
Stay tuned for our special yummy mummy packages which includes a mini facial, make-up and hair, help with styling and a 2 hour glamourous shoot.
Let’s celebrate our inner goddesses!

Bula!!
I have just got back from the beautiful fiji, where I photographed the wedding of Terina and Matt.
From the moment you get off the plane in Fiji you start to relax…I was met outside of customs by some locals with these big smiles , kind eyes and a shell necklace. Every where you walk you are greeted with “Bula” meaning hello!
The Shangri-La resort is about an hour from the airport by transfer bus, this gives you time to enjoy the view and start to wind down into local time.
Any wedding can have mishaps but working with overseas event co-ordinators can sometimes be frustrating, I think it is good to over time things when working on your schedule as the locals are on their time, which can sometimes mean doubling the time on things, then what they have quoted you.
Terina and Matt found themselves having to redo alot of the planing once they set foot in Fiji. To make matters more stressful for them, Matt had a bad accident on a golf buggy the day before the wedding. Taking off most of the skin from his ankle up to his hip on one side, his hand and also getting stiches on his nose. Nothing that a little photoshop magic can’t fix though![]()
In saying this the wedding day itself was totally stress free beautiful and magical. It was a day filled with emotion and love. They had 30 of their friends and family make the trip over with them making a beautiful intimate wedding, which I think sometimes can make it more emotional.
The Shangri-La did such a beautiful job of the ceremony, reception, flowers, cake, the food and who could forget the cocktails!
Thank you to you both for allowing me to share and spend such an intimate time with you and your closest loved ones, it was such and honour![]()
bec
xx
Please excuse the long post, I wanted to share the whole story of their day![]()

Putting the dress on is when it really hits home…OMG I am getting married today![]()

The local choir was so beautiful and warriors were fabulous, they tried hard to look mean… but I think their faces are to kind and gentle to get away with it![]()

You know it must be good luck to have a rainbow through your whole ceremony!

What a gorgeous idea…whoever gets married in the Chapel at the Shangri-La gets their own personal plaque to hammer in.

I have probably said this many times on the blog before, but I love outdoor receptions![]()

I was so lucky this weekend to leave freezing Canberra and fly to Sunny Mackay in Far North Queensland for the wedding of Jacinta and Andrew. The weather was divine and so was this spunky couple…I knew from the moment I chatted to Jacinta over the phone that this wedding was going to be beautiful.
I love Mackay weddings, they are so much fun and so laid back but so stylish all at the same time.
Jacinta being in marketing and Andrew being a town planner, I knew their wedding was going to be creative with many fabulous ideas for photos, including a Quarry, flower fields, and of cause in town with historical buildings.
Thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding, this is a fabulous example of when photography style and the personalities of the couple gel beautifully!

How exciting, Michelle and Brendan are just 16 weeks pregnant with their first bubba!
I photogrpahed their gorgeous Indian/ Australian wedding in October and now we are documenting the journey to parenthood.
We are going to have a photoshoot every couple of months so they have a record of the whole journey and at the end ,put it into a series of storyboards and also their album and story that they are making. It is such a beautiful idea.
This is the first in the series of 3 and are just a couple of my favourites from today.

Christina contacted me a month ago as she wanted to get some engagement shots of herself and fiance Chuck in the short span of time that he was over from America.
It was really important for her to have the Canberra landmarks, because Chuck is from America and they will be getting married over there.
We had so much fun exploring what Canberra has to offer ( only being stopped by Police twice at Parliament house).Trust them to pull an election on the day we wanted to photograph Parliament house though, people and media everywhere! We still managed to find some quite spots and take advantage of this amazing building!
Such a gorgeous and affectionate couple![]()

I have found so many woman who have been unhappy with the way they look, especially mums, which makes me so sad. I love to photograph families in a natural way in order to get beautiful expressions and emotion from the photographs. Candid style of photography is emotive but is not the most flattering of styles and because of this I have found so many woman sad about the way they look. .So I have been searching for a way I can make woman, mums, grandmum’s and all woman feel beautiful and special.
Which lead me to Sue Bryce a beautiful portrait photographer who is now in Sydney but has her studio in New Zealand. She has become the expert in beautiful glamourous portrait photography for the real woman.
I emailed her in and effort to have some mentoring for this style of photography. I went to Sydney this weekend to spend time with her and some beautiful real girls in order to show and teach me how to do this style of photography. This has been quite changing for me and made me do some soul searching about my business.
I have made the decision to no longer offer family photography , newborn and children’s photography as I do it now.. I have decided to stream line my business and do what I love and in the process make woman feel beautiful.
I want to photograph the relationships between mothers and daughters, relationships between couples and also the relationship of a woman with herself, her girl friends or anybody she feel close to.I want to make woman feel beautiful and look beautiful.
So stayed tuned for some amazing photographs from beautiful everyday woman. Isn’t it time we celebrated each other!!

Today my babies let me play.. I don’t get the chance too very often and as any photographer would know, photographing your own children is very difficult.
But my girls were so good to me today trying really hard and even my son popped in for a quick visit.. aww I love my new photos of my kidlets, this is such a precious time in their lives and I get so worried I am going to miss it!
